How would I know if I had an alcohol or drug problem?
The medical profession diagnoses people as being addicted by rating their usage, cravings, and feelings about alcohol or drugs. Specifically, doctors and counselors look for these symptoms:
If you have two three of these symptoms, your diagnosis is a mild substance use disorder. Four or five symptoms make for a moderate substance use disorder, and six or more symptoms mean your substance use disorder diagnosis is severe.
How do I get admitted to Homeward Bound’s Tenth Street facility?
First, a note that we have moved to a new facility. Our detox unit is open. We have limited resources for residential treatment services.
The following is our admissions policy: Detox and residential admission is first come, first served from people who are at our facility on weekdays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.; the lobby is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The number of people we can admit on any given day depends on the availability of free beds. Once I am admitted, how long will I stay?
In our detoxification program, clients stay five to seven days. Clients in our residential program stay up to 28 days, depending on the program they qualify for.
What kind of ID is required?
You can bring one of the following: driver’s license, birth certificate, an ID from The Bridge in Dallas, or Matricula from Mexico. You’ll need proof of residence. If you are living with another person, you need a letter from that person confirming that and a utility bill addressed to that person. If you are employed, bring the three most recent check stubs. If you are on SSI disability, bring your reward letter. If you have Medicaid or any other state insurance, bring your insurance card.

If I am admitted to the residential unit, what should I bring with me?
Residential clients can also bring seven sets of clothing.
Can you tell me if a person is in treatment at Homeward Bound?
We are unable to confirm whether specific clients are at Homeward Bound unless they have signed a release of confidentiality that allows us to acknowledge their presence. This is necessary for us to be in compliance with federal and state privacy rules.
How can I bring something to a client at Homeward Bound?
Property can be dropped off at the front desk between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
When are visiting hours?
Residential Visitation for Men’s, Women’s and Statewide is on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is a thirty minute orientation for visitors that begins at 2:30 p.m.
Does Homeward Bound serve meals?
We provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for our clients in residential treatment.
I have private insurance. How much will treatment cost me?
It’s best to call your insurance company for an estimate because the cost will depend on the plan you have.
