A Book Can Make a Difference

Many thanks to author Marie Etienne for donating 72 copies of her acclaimed memoir, "Confessions of a Bi-Polar Mardi Gras Queen," winner of the 2009 Independent Publisher Regional Book Award for best regional nonfiction. The books have been added to the library on the Women's Unit, where our clients have been enjoying the book's inspirational stories. (The book is available on amazon.com.)

Painting a Brighter Tomorrow

Homeward Bound, Inc. celebrated the generosity of Sherwin Williams Paint Company and many other wonderful donors. Sherwin Williams provided paint and 400 volunteers for what could be a record-setting service extravaganza! In just 4 hours, Sherwin Williams volunteers painted the entire 40,000sq feet interior of our building. The fresh, bright colors make our treatment center a welcoming place for people in need of treatment. The giving spirit of Sherwin Williams and its employees is a fine example of corporate giving and caring hearts. One of our clients states it best: "Thank you so much for adding color to our lives and for the love you have shown us. Your generosity will help so many of us who come through these doors".

Renovation of Women’s Unit

The beautification continued with the complete renovation of our women's unit supported by a gift from the Boone Family Foundation. In addition to the newly painted walls, the women received new sheets donated by Peacock Alley; new mattresses compliments of Sleep Experts Rest Assured Foundation; Elfa storage units from the Container Store; new pillows, blankets, chairs, baskets, new blinds installed by Texton, Inc.; and flooring installed by Specified Floor Designs. The place is beautiful!

New Life Opportunity Program

The generosity of the Boone Family Foundation extended further to include a large donation of funds to cover transitional housing placement for up to two months rent for women who complete Homeward Bound’s residential treatment program giving the women time to find employment, establish independence, and adjust to living in the community drug free. The Embrey Family Foundation also joined as a major contributor in support of the New Life Opportunity (NLO) program and the transitional living component. The Dallas Women’s Foundation continued their support of the NLO program with funding from the Embrey Fund for a peer advocate. The Harold Simmons Foundation joined in the support of the NLO program with a donation to support the case management position. The Duncanville Church of Christ and its membership continues to be a major supporter of the NLO project with funding, mentoring, friendship and spiritual support for the women who are seeking for a new way of life. Thank you so much for your continuing support of this very important cause.

Help the Homeless – Save a Life

We want to thank the Baron and Blue Foundation for their support for individuals who are homeless by helping them stay in residential treatment until a safe housing placement is secured for the individual.

Hottest Summer in 20 Years!

Homeward Bound owes a special thanks to the Dallas Foundation for coming to our rescue when our air conditioning system failed in the middle of one of the worst heat waves ever. Without this emergency grant, we were facing having to discharge some clients to the Bridge and others to area hospitals at a significant cost to both the clients and to the community. We will never be able to thank the Dallas Foundation enough for their help at this critical time. We also want to thank the Sturgis Foundation for their generous gift of much needed life saving medical equipment and supplies. Many of our clients are very ill and this gift helps us provide the best care possible.

Thank You

The entire Board of Directors, executive director and his staff are grateful for these valuable gifts! From our patients to everyone who gave of their funds, products, time, talents, and hearts - Thank you so much!
