ORIENTATION

Begin your path to becoming a certified peer specialist in Texas with HHSC’S online orientation. This step ensures eligibility and offers valuable career insight. Access the orientation at the link below, review self-assessment questions and resources, then download and sign the completion attestation from the HHVS webpage to proceed with training registration.

PEER SPECIALIST CORE TRAINING

The peer specialist core training, spanning three days, is a fundamental requirement for mental health peer specialists and recovery support peer specialists. Specifically designed for individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges or substance use disorders, it equips them to utilize their personal journeys to assist others in their recovery endeavors.

RECOVERY SUPPORT PEER SPECIALIST: SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING

A Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) is someone who has personally overcome substance use challenges. Trained to help others in their recovery, RSPSs honor diverse paths to wellness and offer support without pushing specific methods. They provide guidance in recovery planning, mentorship, and advocacy, collaborating across sectors to empower individuals in their journey to wellness.

MENTAL HEALTH PEER SPECIALIST: SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING

A mental health peer specialist (MHPS) is a trained individual who has overcome mental health challenges and offers support, mentoring, and advocacy to empower others in their recovery journeys, respecting their self-identification and autonomy without using clinical language.

PEER SPECIALIST SUPERVISOR TRAINING

Enhance your skills with our 2-day peer specialist supervisor training, meeting certification requirements. Vital for organizations using Medicaid's new peer services billing code, this program provides foundational knowledge for effective supervision. Whether new to supervision or seeking skill enhancement, gain essential insight to guide peer specialists to success.
