During their stay, our clients attend 2 hours of group therapy a day as well as individual meetings with our counselors. Therapy sessions focus on education and processing thoughts and emotions during recovery and learning how to work through recovery in a healthy and positive way while unlearning negative habits picked up during their addiction. Techniques includes evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and coping strategies. 

 

Clients work on creating a daily routine and normalizing functions outside of addiction and prepare for long-term recovery and personal stabilization outside of the unit. In addition to learning life skills and creating routines, our staff and volunteers provide our clients with recreational activities and introductions to sober activities that will help fill the void that substance use has left in many of our clients’ lives. Staff members work with the clients to make external medical appointments and accompany the clients to those appointments.

 

An important part of our Statewide program is our HIV+ education and training. Individuals who are living with HIV have their immune systems compromised in ways that others do not. Clients who have a substance abuse problem may be at higher risk to contract and spread HIV if they share needles. It is important that our clients understand the heightened risks associated with living with HIV, which our program addresses. Mandated training videos and sessions accompany our Statewide clients as they go through treatment and understand what it means to be HIV positive.

 

Our clients also have the opportunity to meet with our Recovery Support Services specialists while on the unit. This talented team of peer coaches help clients make a plan to maintain sobriety after the 60-day treatment and find solutions to other environmental and systemic issues that may have led to the initial substance abuse, such as homelessness and unemployment. Their support helps clients continue to be engaged with treatment, access services and sustain recovery. 

 

Our program also includes family systems counseling, which involves family members, partners, and clients’ children, as appropriate.
